#105 Margret Petrie´s Authenticity in Art Coaching

A Conversation on Confidence and Marketing

Margret Petrie

The Intersection of Art and Identity

Margret Petrie’s journey as an artist is a deeply personal exploration of identity. In our conversation, she delved into what it means to truly consider oneself an artist. This question, which might seem straightforward to some, is layered with doubt and introspection for many. Margret shares her initial hesitations in embracing the label "artist" due to societal expectations and self-imposed standards. Despite not having attended art school or practicing art professionally in a traditional sense, she firmly believes that anyone engaged in creative pursuits is justified in calling themselves an artist. Margret’s perspective encourages us all to own our creative identities, regardless of external validation or conventional success.

Margret shows us her quilt she talks about in the interview.

Podcasting as an Artistic Expression

Margret´s Art Podcast

Margret’s podcast, Authentic Obsessions, is more than just a platform for sharing stories: to her it is in itself a form of art! She describes, how producing the podcast provided the same creative fulfillment as her earlier endeavors in collaging and painting. For Margret, the podcast is a tangible product of her creative energy — a piece of art that she puts out into the universe. I have never looked at podcasting from this perspective and I have to say: this was EYE-OPENING to me!!!

Through our podcasts, Margret and I both have found a way to connect with other artists, explore diverse forms of creativity, and keep our own artistic spirit alive. This segment of our conversation highlights the expansive definition of art and how new mediums, like podcasting, can serve as a profound outlet for creative expression.

From Podcasting to Coaching: A Natural Evolution

Margret’s transition from podcasting to art coaching was not a sudden leap, but rather a natural progression. Her deep engagement with artists’ stories and her training in positive psychology laid the groundwork for her coaching practice. Margret explained how her Podcast provided a platform to explore artists' motivations, challenges, and successes, which in turn informed her approach to coaching.

Finding your Why: The Core of Margret’s Coaching Philosophy

She helps artists navigate their creative paths by encouraging them to discover the passions that drive their work and the stories that lead to it. I find, that also in her coaching those authentic obsessions, that are the focus of her Podcast, are key. By focusing on these, Margret believes that artists can communicate their work more effectively and connect with their audience on a deeper level.

With her clients Margret works on connecting with their inner drive and allowing it to guide their artistic journey. Her approach is deeply personal and tailored to each artist’s unique path, making the underlying stories the cornerstone of her coaching practice. This part of our conversation encapsulates the essence of Margret’s work as an artist coach: helping artists find their voice and share it with the world.

Margret´s collages which I loooove!

This conversation with Margret Petrie reveals the depth of her journey as an artist, a podcaster, and a coach. I find that her insights of the interplay between creativity, authenticity, and connection offer valuable lessons for anyone navigating the artistic path. Whether through her podcast, her quilting or other art forms, or her coaching, Margret continues to inspire and support artists to embrace their true selves and to share their unique stories with the world in the most authentic way possible.

Atelier-Talk is brought to you by Kunst-Investments

The greatest return on investment is the joy that art can bring.“ as Manuel Koch puts it. With his unique blend of expertise as an art connoisseur, collector, and financial expert he knows what he is talking about.

That Joy he talks about actually has 3 forms:

  1. First, there’s the satisfaction of knowing that by buying art you’re supporting the artists. As an artist myself, I know how important this is because those sales help us create the art we’re passionate about.

  2. Then there’s the joy of owning a beautiful new piece that brightens and enriches your everyday life.

  3. And speaking of enrichment, the third point is that buying art can be a fantastic investment opportunity.
